Name Robin // Karigan G'ladheon
Age approximately 19
Team Sterling

Height/Build 5'7" / athletic
Hair Color/Eye Color brown hair with a patch of white at the hairline / blue eyes
Notable Traits
Her hair is long and she tends to wear it loose around her or braided back during sword practice.
Scars
-- Burn scars around both wrists
-- Sword slash scar on her side under her left rib cage
-- Puckered scar on her left shoulder from wild magic
-- Small knife point scar under her left breast
-- Small crescent scar under her right(?) eye
-- Small scar at the hairline and a patch of pale blonde hair growing from it.
-- Large scar down her forearm and hand (skipping the wrist)

(more to come as I remember them)

Other
-- There will be a sense of the dead around her. Nothing more solid than that though.
-- Karigan wears a golden brooch shaped like a winged horse with her key attached to it. It is an arcane object of minor ability to augment her own. The brooch itself has magic on it to keep it from being clearly seen by anyone but a Green Rider. For convenience's sake, I'm going to say that the brooch usually looks like

If your character has access to magic and you think they would be able to see it for what it is, let me know and we can play with that.

Captain Mapstone dipped her pen into the inkwell, but paused before signing off on the sheaf of
papers before her.
"Is there anything else you wanted to add to the report?"
"I think that's all." Karigan hoped the captain didn't detect any hesitance in her voice.
"I know it hasn't been easy regurgitating those terrible events over and over, but the king
appreciates your efforts to provide a detailed and accurate record."
Karigan nodded, glancing down at her hands folded across her lap. She had stood before the king
and his inner circle three times to be grilled about the delegation's journey and its disastrous end.
The king's advisors thrust question after question at her.

When Karigan and Telagioth returned to the world above, gentle summer night air wrapped around
them. The scents of fresh forest growth mingling with that of blood and viscera clung to the back of
Karigan's throat, leaving, an acrid taste she could not swallow away.
Soldiers called out to one another through the woods, and the chirruping of crickets rose and fell in
erratic waves. The startling beauty of silvery moonstones alight in the clearing and among the trees
revealed, once again, the carnage. It was too much of a sensory assault after the dank, cold silence
of the tomb. It unbalanced her, and Telagioth placed his hands on her shoulders to steady her.
Just then, soldiers approached, carrying a body in a makeshift stretcher made of two pikes and a
blanket. An arm swung lifelessly over the side with the motion. When they passed, Karigan saw it
was Lady-Governor Penburn they bore.

Laren well remembered that whole affair; she could still hear Neff's voice ringing through the throne room as he announced Karigan's name-and title: "Karigan G'ladheon, sub-chief of Clan G'ladheon!"

Zachary and Laren had exchanged surprised glances, surprised because they thought by this time
never to see her here again.

Swordplay with Drent is just short of nightmarish :')

Supposedly training with Armsmaster Drent is an honor to Karigan, but it's also viewed as a punishment at times because he is exacting, demanding, and very drill sergeant.

This training for Karigan took the form of endurance training and building up the strength with her left arm. She will know how to fight with either her right or left hands with this skill. Drent is also the beginnings of the training towards swordsmaster initiate. She's not to that point yet, but she's now extremely skilled with a sword.

She'll receive hand weights with this skill.

Okay, so this skill is hysterical... Karigan is horrible ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE at knife throwing. Her armsmaster is the only person brave enough to stand within twenty yards while she's practicing. THESE ARE SOLDIERS AND SWORDSMASTERS IN TRAINING. AND THEY SCATTER WHEN KARIGAN PICKS UP THE THROWING KNIVES.

I mean seriously, she almost kills a kid bringing her a message because her knife slipped.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AT THIS.

... She probably will stubbornly not give up trying to master it.

She'll receive a set of throwing knives when she gets this skill back.

Karigan had not realized she'd fallen asleep in the big chair until she
awakened to find Miss Bunchberry gently shaking her wrist. "Supper, dear
child. Letitia has outdone herself."

Karigan stretched and yawned, and nearly walked out of the room with
the crystal cupped in her hand, before she remembered it and replaced it
on Professor Berry's table of oddities. Of all the objects in the library, the
crystal seemed to be a source of light and warmth, and possessed no
twisted qualities like the telescope. The silver light extinguished as her
fingers released it. The room grew dark and uninviting without its
radiance.

A noise awakened Karigan. Someone was in the room bending over her
bed, and it was too dark to see who. She reached out into the gloom and
grabbed a handful of hair. Her assailant squeaked.
Karigan tugged harder.

"Ow! Stop it!" a girl cried out. "I'd like to keep my hair if you don't
mind."

Karigan stepped out into the overcast morning, leading The Horse down
the alley to the main street. The stableboy watched after them wistfully,
probably hoping for another copper. He deserved it, Karigan reflected.
The Horse gleamed despite the dullness of the day. She just could not
afford to dip into her reserves for more coins, but she had made a point of
praising the boy for his fine care.

The main street was still muddy. Townsfolk walked on wooden boards
lined in front of nearly every building and storefront, but the boards didn't
help if one had to cross the street or veer off course. Women held their
long skirts high, their faces in perpetual frowns as they trudged through
the slop. Karigan grimaced herself as her foot sucked in the mud. The
shine on The Horse's coat would not last long.

Intrigue is a board game! It's similar in nature to chess. It's all about strategy and tactics. Karigan actually is really bad at it and kind of hates the game, but she does know the basics of how to play it.

The novel thing about Intrigue is that it can be played with two or three players. In a two player set up it is essentially chess. In a three player set up, the third, or triad, player can form alliances with the other players to gang up on one side or another or to backstab etc.

It can get really vicious!

That said, it is also used by the noble class as a teaching tool for their kids.

She will have a game board and the three sets of pieces (red, green, and blue) done in wood in her bedroom.

Twenty to thirty metal-clad figures swarmed over each ridge toward the
valley floor. The brave little terriers charged the groundmites as if the
instinct to attack the creatures had been bred into them. Nobles fell to the
ground with arrows bristling from them like pins in a pin cushion.

"Who is that?" Alton asked. He pointed at the opposite ridge and passed
Karigan the scope.

She trained it where he pointed. At first she saw no one among the trees
and tall grasses, but then a solitary figure standing there became
discernible. Just barely. He was dressed in gray. She nearly dropped the
telescope.

Karigan leaned in a darkened doorway, sucking in painful breaths. One
hand clutched the door frame, the other closed on the wound beneath her
ribs. It was not too deep, but it bled profusely and stung painfully.

Dim light glowed in an adjacent corridor, but she had to drop the
invisibility to preserve any energy she had left. The slash to her side was
not helping matters. She looked down, and in the darkness, discerned an
even darker stain spreading across the front of her shirt. Crimson oozed
between her fingers and pattered on the floor.

Someone prodded Karigan's ribs.

"Stop it, Estral. I'll go to class tomorrow." She moaned and rolled over
onto her back. The rich scent of loam filled her nostrils and the sun beat on
her face. She blinked her eyes open. Clouds smeared the sky like
fingerprints. This wasn't her dorm room.

Thump, thump. This time on her shoulder.

Karigan blinked again. Soldiers pursued her. Soldiers who would stop at
nothing to possess the message she carried.

Karigan sat immobilized, and it was some moments before she realized
Clatheas had left her to wander among other tables to offer the telling of
fortunes. More people trickled into the inn. A group sat in a tight cluster at
an adjacent table. Among them was a petite, titian-haired woman. When
she spoke, her eyes afire, all others leaned in closer to listen. Karigan
strained to hear, too.

King Zachary, indeed! she fumed. Needs me, does he? Humph! Yet,
inside, she shook. The thought of it, the king needing her, overwhelmed
her. It terrified her.

She stalked down the corridor to her room. The silver moon spread
shadow bars across the floor from the many-paned window. All else was
submerged in darkness. From her pocket she pulled the moonstone, which
illumined the room to the darkest floor cracks, seeming to draw moonlight
from outside until all was cast in silver. Karigan watched in wonder until a
tiny gasp from behind startled her.

Three wooden arms branched from a cedar signpost planted in a grassy
island in the middle of the intersection. From the south arm hung a shingle
indicating the River Road. More shingles, carved with the names of towns
along the way, hung beneath it. If Karigan were going home, she would
take this road.

The middle arm pointed to the well-maintained Kingway which bore
east, the most direct route to Sacor City and King Zachary. Her father had
said the Kingway would one day be paved all the way from Sacor City to
Selium, increasing commerce and prosperity for all the villages situated
along it.

The third arm pointed toward an ill-kept, overgrown track. The one
shingle hanging from it bore one ominous word: North.

The nature of her dreams changed abruptly. She heard fair voices in song
and talk around her. The voices weren't intrusive, but soothing, though she
could not understand the words. She awakened once, and a myriad of stars
brightened the sky like beacons, and silhouetted the tops of evergreens.
She lay in a great round clearing softened by deer moss that looked like
clumps of snow in the starlight. Stars flickered among the trees… no, not
stars, but moonstones… dozens of them. She was not alone.

Light followed in the wake of folk tall and slender, who glided across
the clearing and disappeared among the trees. She sat up with a start that
set her head ringing.
